sojourner

this part of the city is ambivalent. observe those soft, yellow lights terribly equidistant as we are to pedestrians and passengers who populate the roads below. they serve to illuminate one who feels lost, to ask that easy man for directions, but nothing fancy like kindness.

but further behind the light, in covert places, is forgetting. the darkness knows how to heal what has happened to us in this city, even if only for few hours. close your eyes and believe at this tenderness now claiming your body, a kiss at a time, ebbing where there is need, yielding where you are firm, ending when there is painfully nothing left to give or to take.

a few minutes after, you light a stick at border of this comfort found within the city. the smoke dances away from you, toward the windows, until outside, it dissolves within that air you will breathe later, while you try to withstand the growing distance, while you slowly change as anyone and everyone else, headed for home.
